PBR entertainer Flint Rasmussen continues his tradition of bringing music to his radio show “Outside the Barrel.” He is joined in-studio TODAY by country/pop band, Exile! The group came together in 1963 and, since then, has produced hits that topped both the pop and country charts. Some of their No. 1 singles include “I Don’t Want to Be a Memory” and “Give Me One More Chance.”
The group talks about their decision to re-vamp their sound and shift from pop music to a more country-style genre in the early 1980’s. Their country tunes became wildly popular overseas and much to their surprise, upon arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa, Exile was greeted by several thousand animated fans. “We were huge stars and didn’t even know it,” says band member Sonny LeMaire.
Sonny and JP pride themselves on writing their own music for the group, and have both been recognized as Songwriter of the Year by BMI. 50 years have passed, and five of the original band members continue to record music and perform on tour today.
